Captains Point is a Lake Norman neighborhood where deeded boat-slip access defines the address as much as the house itself.
Community overview based on MLS listing data for Captains Point, Cornelius
Captains Point is a Lake Norman neighborhood where deeded boat-slip access defines the address as much as the house itself. Nearly every listing ties the home to a deeded slip, and the waterfront stretch along Baltic Drive is the community's premium tier, with recent closed sales there averaging about $680,000 and top waterfront closings reaching $1.735 million.
Most of the neighborhood was built from 1995 through 1998, giving Captains Point a solid base of single-family homes on roughly quarter-acre lots. Those earlier homes are joined by a smaller run of 2007-2014 custom waterfront residences, many by Simonini, that bring larger floor plans, finished basements, lake-facing porches, and more elaborate outdoor entertaining spaces. That mix keeps the neighborhood from feeling uniform: the interior streets lean toward traditional two-story and ranch-and-a-half plans, while the lake edge carries the bigger, newer houses.
Captains Point stands out more for direct lake access than for clubhouse-style amenities. Screened porches, decks, patios, fireplaces, and fenced or wooded backyards appear again and again, which fits a neighborhood where the dock and the outdoor room are central features. Hardwood floors, open main living areas, updated kitchens, and stone countertops are also common themes, and bonus rooms or dedicated offices show up often enough to be part of the neighborhood's regular floor-plan vocabulary.
Construction is mixed rather than uniform. Brick is mentioned often enough to matter, but the waterfront homes also introduce stacked stone, Hardie board, shaker accents, and other siding materials. Pools are the exception rather than the rule, and basements are concentrated in the larger waterfront homes instead of the neighborhood as a whole.
The setting places Captains Point in the middle of Cornelius's most convenient Lake Norman corridor. Listings regularly call out quick access to I-77, restaurants, shopping, marinas, Jetton Park, Birkdale Village, and everyday stops around Exit 28. Cornelius Elementary, Bailey Middle, and William Amos Hough High are the schools most often attached to the neighborhood, with Hough mentioned specifically in several sales remarks.
Captains Point is best understood as a house-focused lake community where deeded slips, cul-de-sac lots, and strong indoor-outdoor living carry more weight than resort amenities. Among Cornelius lake neighborhoods, it offers a proven waterfront premium on Baltic Drive and unusually consistent boat access throughout the rest of the neighborhood.
